The Bishop of Myrewood is a titular Bishop, in that Myrewood has not officially been its own diocese within the Church of the Holy Light for more than a century. In recognition of Myrewood Abbey's history, and numerous contributions to the greater Church, there is still a titular Bishop of Myrewood, though he is now answerable to the Bishops of the diocese of Stormwind, and holds no spiritual authority outside Myrewood. The current Bishop of Myrewood is Thomas Levente, who succeded his cousin, Janos Levente after his disappearance in September of 624 K.C.
Duties and Authority[]
Much like an Ordinary, the Bishop's primary function is that of teaching authority, and ministerial oversight of Myrewood Abbey and its congregation. Unlike like an Ordinary, the Bishop of Myrewood holds no spiritual authority, or special rank outside his own congregation, and is not a voting member of the Council of Bishops.
His work includes the oversight of the Abbey's seminary, performing liturgy, consecrations, and other ceremonial duties, as well as the administration of the Abbey's finances and public outreach efforts. The Bishop of Myrewood also performs all wedding, funeral, and other rites and ceremonies for the Mara family, without whom, the Abbey could not exist.
Election Process[]
For over a century, candidates for the office have been nominated from among the Abbey's most senior clergy and then elected by a two thirds majority. In some cases, there has been only one candidate proposed, largely due to a lack of senior clergy at a given time.
Controversy[]
Due to the black reputation of his predecessor, his own disregard for the Light's virtues and the dignity of the office itself, the Countess of Myrewood has been encouraged to simply appoint another in Thomas' stead. The Countess has refused to do so, stating that she will not go against the century-old tradition of allowing Myrewood's congregation to nominate, and elect its own Bishop. To date, a number of local priests have been proposed, but no election has been held.
