The Grand Company of the Blackheart Battalion is a mercenary organization founded in March of the year 629 K.C. by Vesper Bloodsorrow, who has since served as its leader under the title of Lady Commander. The Battalion was originally assembled from a small but effective unit of disenfranchised members of the horde who, suffering from the dissonance between their values of honor and what they saw as an increasingly senseless bloodshed and tactics used during The Fourth War, decided to follow the more merciful and just vision of their commanding officer, whom they freely elected as their leader.

Putting their blades and shields up for hire to anyone who would both pay the bills and provide a worthy cause, the Battalion soon began to attract similarly conflicted souls from other cultures and races; many of them remained loyal to their Horde-aligned peoples, but could no longer justify outright hatred towards the Alliance.  

Setting up base in the deserted island of Fenris, still well within Horde territory but sufficiently removed from centres of power so that it can act independently, the Battalion maintains a sizeable network of contracts, allies, and logistic assets, which allow it to deploy its forces swiftly across most of the civilized world.

Guild Themes

The Blackheart Battalion is a mercenary-themed, neutral organization that primarily focuses on specialty military operations, such as providing armed security for merchants, fairs, and sizeable gatherings of people, and tactical deployments of force, such as those required to extract hostages, cripple villainous activities, and protect the innocent.

That said, the Battalion is an organization with multiple interests to oversee, and as such has also need for personnel of non-military backgrounds, chiefly in departments relating to logistics, communication, diplomacy, management, and the well-being of its members.

Neutrality

While on account of the ethnicity and nationality of its members the Battalion is overtly a Horde organisation, it maintains a strict neutrality in respect to the faction conflict, choosing to remove itself from the main military campaigns between Horde and Alliance forces, unless its involvement is critical to the protection of clients and/or innocent people.

Regardless of this, the Battalion is well-aware that not everyone shares these views, and in order to facilitate its operations in Alliance-controlled territory it has developed a close, mutually-beneficial relationship with the also neutral but Alliance-leaning Honourable Company of the Everwind Exchange, of which the Lady Commander herself is one of the main stockholders. Both organizations support each other in matters military, commercial, and diplomatic whenever possible.
