–Brigitte Abbendis |
High General Brigitte Abbendis was one of the first female members of the Order of the Silver Hand and stood among the most notable figures of the Scarlet Crusade. Soon after the Third War, she succeeded her father as supreme commander of the Crusade's forces in the Plaguelands. In this capacity, she was second only to the Grand Crusader himself. Her zeal was legend throughout Lordaeron, and her fanaticism only grew as the Scourge claimed the entirety of her family, one by one.
In 29 LC, Abbendis began to experience visions from the Light that drove her to lead an expedition to Northrend. Under her leadership, the Onslaught dug in at the fortress of New Hearthglen in the southern Dragonblight and won early victories against the Scourge and the Forsaken. However, internal strife and increased pressure from Alliance and Horde forces quickly ground her advance to a halt, and Forsaken assassins ended her life before winter's end. She remains both an icon of the Crusade's resolve and devotion and an example of their foolhardiness.
