The Town of Cassbury is a modest sized town within the eastern part of the Barony of Lontshire. It is considered to be the cultural and administrative center for the barony, and holds many important buildings. It also holds the main garrison for the Lontshire Battalion and the headquarters for the Lontshire Regional Bank.
History[]
Before the time of annexation by the Barony of Lontshire, Cassbury was said to be a small farming village known as Cassentary. Records and papers of this time are few and far between, but it is said that the town held a steady population of fifty persons before joining the Barony of Lontshire.
On 136 K.C., the unorganized town was annexed and absorbed into the Barony of Lontshire and was officially founded as the Town of Cassbury by decree of Lord Sergio Altare, the fourth Baron of Lontshire. The decree was met with initial resistance from the villagers, but as economic growth started to climb and the town was given a local and free mayor, most of these complainants subsided.
Since then, Cassbury has experienced slow but steady growth with the introduction of Lontshire's upper administration. The town still retains an independent mayor and council, separate from the Charge of Cassbury, the namesake territory that surrounds it.
In 622 K.C., the town experienced a major economic boon when the headquarters of the recently founded Lontshire Regional Bank moved to the small town.
Governance[]
To this day, the Town of Cassbury maintains a popularly elected Mayor of Cassbury, who acts as the primary administrator and ceremonial master of the town. The mayor is elected for a twenty year term, but due the relative old age of those elected, the term is rarely finished. The mayor is styled: The Honorable X, Rightful Mayor of Cassbury.
To assist the mayor, the Town Council of Cassbury acts as the prime body of advisors. Councilors are selected by the mayor, and approved by the Baron of Lontshire.
The township willingly passes on its judicial powers of persecution to the Charge of Cassbury, mostly for major crimes like murder, rape, and treason.
