Columban IV was born in Stratholme City under the name of Ford Surrell. Little is known as to his childhood. He was elected Archbishop after the death of his predecessor, Archbishop Jerome IX. While Jerome, also called the "Warrior-Bishop" was known for his tactical and combative abilities, Columban was known for his kindness and pastoral care in the establishments of various parishes throughout the lower regions of the contentent.
The saint, Columban Blackmoore, was named by his parents after Columban IV.
