Durnholde Keep is a ruined stronghold located east of the town of Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills. Once under the command of Lieutenant General Aedelas Blackmoore, it was utilized as an internment camp for the orcish prisoners of the Second War.
After the Second War, Durnholde served as one of many internment camps where orcish prisoners were kept after a long debacle of how the orcish prisoners of war may be utilized and contained after the Second War.
Durnholde would be where the future warchief of the Horde, Thrall, would be contained and trained as a gladiator, later breaking free.
The fortress was initially ruled by Lieutenant General Aedelas Blackmoore, a self-absorbed drunkard who had used Thrall for personal gain. Though, after the escape of Thrall, and the rallying of scattered orcs within the Foothills and beyond, Thrall and the orcs slowly but surely liberated the orcs from each of the individual internment camps, soon leading to Durnholde.
The battle within Durnholde was the moment Aedelas Blackmoore had shown Thrall the disembodied head of his long childhood friend Taretha Foxton. This is when the young Thrall would kill Lord Blackmoore in cold blood, and destroyed the Keep, leaving it in ruins.
After the Keep went to ruin, the Syndicate had chosen to inhabit the ruins, along with staking claims to lands within Alterac, and Arathi. Though, post-Shattering, the keep was soon overtaken by the elemental upheaval, and, the Forsaken seek to utilize it, assaulting the elemental menace from the staging grounds of the Eastpoint Tower.
Formerly inhabited by the Syndicate of Alterac, after the Shattering of Azeroth, elemental inhabitants had taken ome within the ruins of Durnholde Keep. The Syndicate seeming to have completely abandon the ruins of the Keep.
More recently, by decree of Mathilan Lionblood and Veratos Lionblood, the Duchy of Durnholde was granted to Falcko Arturia of the Ironcloak Vanguard. With the aid of Alterac and Arathor, Duchess Arturia was able to rebuild the keep and provide a neutral hub within the north.
After the rebellion led by Tyler Steele, Duke Galmone Smith of Aurumsmark has assumed martial control and stewardship of Durnholde.
