–-Azshar'el Relthanas

Azshar'el Relthanas is a Highborne spellblade, whose main profession is being an arcane smith. He is currently on the council of the Seekers of the Rune, an organization owned and headed by Zariasona Emberspirit, which is focused on artifact acquisition and magical research. It is a faction-neutral order than works towards prestige and wealth and is considered lawful. He is thousands of years old, having lived through the War of the Ancients, the three Great Wars, and the burning of Teldrassil. He is a veteran of the Fourth War, having fought under the banner of the Grand Alliance.

Physical Appearance[]

Azshar'el is 7'7" and slender, with cool-toned pale skin covered with blue and purple arcane runic tattoos, and some scarring. His face is elegant and androgynous, echoing the ethereal beauty of his race. His hair is long and interspersed with braids, silver and grey locks showing his age. His eyes glow a bright amber, indicating his magical prowess in his family line. He has long pointed ears and long eyebrows, and his ears have golden jewelry adorning them -- capping the ears and dangling with crystals. Most notably, his left arm is missing and replaced with an arcane prosthetic. Made of silver and gold plated elementium, and at the joints featuring magical arcane orbs that animate the prosthetic, allowing it to function as if it were a normal arm.

On his face, down his right arm and right leg, are purposefully and carefully inscribed into his skin -- it seems to not be ink, but directly carved into his skin. They faintly glow but can glow brighter when he uses magic.

He often is seen in various outfits of cloth, fine silks with golden thread and embroidery. This shows his obvious enjoyment of luxury. However, he also has a full set of plate armor or mage robes that he wears in battle or in travel, along with his working clothes for when he is at the forge. Often he is seen with an embersilk satchel on his person, which holds his book of arcane runes, blacksmithing tools, his lorgnettes, and other necessary items.

Pictured to the left are Azshar'el's robes. Made of a mixture of cloth and reinforced with leather, these are worn when he attends The Arcane Union, is in Dalaran for business or pleasure, and if his skills as an arcanist are needed. The bulk of them are made from mooncloth and embersilk and features enchantments and socketed gems, primarily acting as arcane foci. Not talented in tailoring himself, he had these commissioned by a tailor in Dalaran.

Pictured below is Azshar'el's armor. Hand-crafted by himself, he created it with elementium, empyrium, and monelite. The inner parts of his armor are inscribed with arcane runes to empower his own spellcasting and stamina in battle. It is made for only his shape, so it would be difficult for anyone else to don it. If one would seek to have armor like his own, they would need to contact him for commission prices on such a set. This is a newly made set of armor.

Weapons[]

The Staff of Loreth'Aran is a relic of a broken pillar from the ruins of the old Kalimdor city, Loreth'Aran. He found it partially destroyed from the remnants of the Great Sundering and took it for himself, infusing metal and the arcane to make it a stable staff for his use, as a focus for his arcane magics. While it may be better to get a staff that is 'new', the sentimentality of the artifact has its grip on him.

His sword is made of an irontree metal and elementium, a blade he crafted himself. Within it is socketed an hederine gemstone, meant for counter-spelling other magics. He glows faintly purple, tipping off that it is enchanted. The blade is oft sharpened.

Azshar'el's shield was made within Dalaran's magic forge, purchasing all the materials from the area, and is enchanted like the rest of his gear. It is mainly made of adamantium and plated with truegold. Not many are made like it, and he has never sold one to others

The Arcane Anvil[]

Azshar'el's personal business and smithy, The Arcane Anvil, is active and growing in its patronage and customers. While it is not his only source of income, he views it as his main profession. He takes on commissions generally, but will occasionally open up booths or have his forge open to selling handcrafted goods to anyone who would like them. He also gives discounts to anyone from the Seekers of the Rune. If you are seeking a large order that would be for a mercenary organization, militia, or otherwise, it would be best to pass over the Arcane Anvil. He has moved on from offering large bulk orders.

The Arcane Anvil is also where he offers his arcane reforging, enchantment, and thaumaturgy services if one requires them. Thaumaturgy is useful as a means to adjust or change an enchantment already applied to a magical item. On the other hand, arcane reforging is a deeper process that may require extra materials or partial to fully recycling of an object, and he will use the runes already laid out to empower them with something better or part of the new magical item. This is what makes his services unique, although he has yet to take on an apprentice to teach this art.

A parchment explaining his services, how to contact him, and current stock is here. You are welcome to send him a mail to meet for an appointment and commission quotes are free. There are two locations: Fenris Isle, Silverpine Forest and Dalaran.

History[]

Once Azshar'el reached adulthood, he joined the Moon Guard, an elite group of Kaldorei sorcerers who served as protectors and peace-keepers in the ancient Kaldorei Empire, which dominated much of Ancient Kalimdor. The order was established long before even the War of the Ancients and its members included talented spell-casters who dedicated themselves to upholding the peace and security of the Kaldorei nation. He moved to Suramar where they were stationed and underwent intense training, however, when the War of the Ancients began he defected and escaped to Eldre'thalas in Feralas. He isolated with the Shen'dralar, as his father was apart of their organization, and Prince Toltheldrin. When Prince Toltheldrin went mad, he saw as his father and his mentor both died at the hands of the man's insanity. He escaped Eldre'thalas and spent thousands of years in Southern Kalimdor.

During that time, he traveled through ruined cities of his people's once great empire, collecting artifacts and archiving documents he found - for a personal collection he still holds. He killed many a demon, satyr, and naga during this time as well. After the Third War, Rachet was founded, and he moved to live there for a time and worked as a mercenary for a group founded out of there while making trips to Dalaran to listen to lectures by the Kirin Tor and purview its great library, before becoming apart of the Kirin Tor as a minor researcher. While not high up in the ranks, he appreciates the freedom and inquiry that a low rank allows him, though he hopes to pursue further involvement with the organization. He has lived through the three Great Wars and numerous others, mostly as a witness than any type of soldier. He is a veteran of the Fourth War and now finds himself as a council member to an organization, Seekers of the Rune.

He also is an arcane blacksmith who sells his wares often. His current home-forge is in Fenris Isle of Silverpine Forest, but he is often using one within Dalaran as well. He can be contacted for commissioned items such as weapons, shields, and armor, or for enchantments and the art of thaumaturgy. He is especially skilled in offensive arcane enchantments but knows minor ones as well, such as armor-heating or cooling spells.

Youth[]

Azshar'el was born into the noble caste of Kaldorei, the Highborne. Being born with amber eyes it was predicted he would be a powerful arcanist. He grew up without want, able to do as he pleased under the loving guidance of his parents. His parents named him after the great Queen Azshara that his people worshipped, in hopes he would live up to the promising potential she had as the most accomplished Kaldorei Empire queen. He has fond memories of helping his mother map the stars, for she was an astronomer. His father was also a mage, apart of the Shen'dralar.

As an adolescent, Azshar'el took his mage training more seriously. He was very dedicated and in turn, also over-worked. His parents put much faith and promise into him, and he did not want to disappoint. All of this came with the heap of luxury and wealth, however, being gluttonous for power and intrigue like most of his peers. He looked down on the lowborn and thought himself on top of the world. He excelled in his training and was noticed for his potential to possibly be inducted into the Moon Guard, although he did hear protests from his parents due to the fact the guard was not the highest status he could achieve, he found purpose in being apart of the military and serving under Queen Azshara.

The Re-Entry of the Highborne[]

When the Highborne were allowed to integrate back into Kaldorei society using magic legally, he implored to become a trainer of the arcane, but he felt the distrust and simmering hatred the other Kaldorei had for him and fellow Highbornes that came from Eldre'thalas or a few other places survivors trickled in from. While no attempts were made on his life, he was often shunned. Humbled from the many years he spent after escaping Eldre'thalas, he was unsurprised, but it also kept him on his toes of how often he was scrutinized. That is why he found himself often going to Dalaran to learn of new magical research and arcane techniques, recognizing that even if he had kept his skills sharp and explored as much as he could, he was no perfect and had to admit his shortcomings if he wished to become a better magus. He was both mentor and mentee, in a sense.

His life was mostly peaceful in Darnassus, until the Fourth War, in which Sylvanas ignited Teldrassil and started an effort to annihilate the Kaldorei. He, among other Highborne, proved themselves at this moment by keeping portals open so many of the citizens could escape. He subsisted only on conjured food to make this effort possible, even when it felt like it would be impossible to save many people, it was well worth his effort. Once the main evacuation of the Kaldorei was completed, he turned to the Alliance's war-front in Ashenvale, fighting on Darkshore against the Horde. It was not until the armistice was signed did he stop, and make his official resignation from the military.

Personality[]

Azshar'el Relthanas would be considered short-tempered, particular, skeptical, cautious, and rational. Having lived for so long, he has learned that being overly involved with others can lead to grief as they lose their life - at least, for races who are young with shorter lifespans. Being a Highborne, people who are very involved in magical pursuits and prowess, he also has a sense of pride and arrogance. He does not expect anyone to do as well as he could. It is not uncommon for him to have biting words towards other races, especially humans, who he looks down on.

When it comes to his relations with others, he does like to 'keep the peace', even if he keeps a guard up. While he is not what most would view as 'flirtatious', he does have a way of being very open and honest about his feelings if they arrive - even using lines that others may not be able to get away with without being seen as too cheesy. He is quite chaste and has not been in a romantic relationship in a very long time.

He takes his work seriously. Interrupting him may cause him to chide you, and he often prefers to surround himself with ambitious and dedicated folks. When overworked he can be a bit grumpy, but is a man of his word, unable to abandon a project he has brought onto his shoulders.

Beliefs[]

He worships the goddess Elune like many of his kin, and at one point before the War of the Ancients he was devoted to Queen Azshara. While he does not attend any group rituals or engage in pilgrimages, he does place faith in Elune's power and grace, and sees the worship and return to her favor as absolution for the crimes of his people past. However, he refuses to learn or use Druidic magic, not seeing it worthy of his learning. The one unique way he connects to the goddess Elune is through star-mapping and astronomy.

Relationships[]

Zariasona Emberspirit - Zariasona is the Magistrix of the Seekers of the Rune. She is the person he answers to when it comes to different acquisitions and missions, almost acting as the role of the secretary when it comes to the paperwork that passes his desk for her as he especially handled contracts and working within the law. He respects her ambition but is a bit wary of how far she is willing to go to claim her power again within the ranks of the Alliance.

Vya'daras Nightvein - Technically his subordinate, a Ren'dorei interested in assisting the Seekers of the Rune as a financial patron and with magical research. Azshar'el enjoys what he can learn from him in his curiosity about the Void, and may choose to pursue something beyond mere acquaintance with him.

Trivia[]

  • Azshar'el is a very skilled spellblade. Trained for millennia both in arcane magic and swordsmanship, it makes him a powerful ally or foe. However, he does not boast his prowess and has spent less time on the battlefield unless necessary.
  • He has a standing harp he plays, it often soothing his mind if he gets the opportunity to do so. Very rarely will he play for an audience.
  • When it comes to reading tiny documents or lettering, his eyesight has worsened over time, and he has a pair of lorgnettes for reading print now.
  • Azshar'el is an arcane smith and thaumaturge. He has the ability to craft magical armor and weapons, infuse objects with spells, and change the property of some enchantments.
  • Being so old, his memories of the past have somewhat melded together and shifted, but he does have a pretty firm grasp on his life. He does have children from a family past, but they are also elven and into their thousands.
  • Azshar'el remembers fondly watching the stars and drawing star maps with his mother. This is something he still occasionally does, although much knowledge has been lost over time.
  • He does not have a license for telemancy under the Kirin Tor, so while he can create portals and is skilled in teleportation, rarely will he do so for he obeys the law.
  • Azshar'el can naturally see arcane auras of others due to him being a Highborne.
