The Gilnean Central Barracks was one of the largest and most populated military barracks found within the Kingdom of Gilneas. It was located within the Military District of Gilneas City and housed the bulk of the Gilnean Army. Central Barracks also held key command and tactical facilities and was where many Army campaigns were typically led.
The Gilnean Central Barracks also held the Gilnean Ceremonial Guard, which was the Kingdom's Honour Guard. It consisted of both Navy and Army personnel.
History[]
Originally, the Central Barracks only housed Army forces, but following the disbanding of the Gilnean Navy as a result of the Greymane Wall, many former naval servicemen were transferred to the army and took up residence within the Barracks, which led many disputes given general hostilities between Navy and Army at the time (though any quarrels have since disappeared). This resulted in large disruptions and issues of sub ordination, particularly in the case of former naval officers taking up command of Army units.
During the beginning of the Invasion of Gilneas, much of the City Guard and Royal Guard took up headquarters within the barracks, in which much of the armaments and men originated from. Sadly, as worgen over-ran the Market District, much of the equipment was lost and King Greymane resorted to other methods.
The Barracks suffered little damage from the worgen attack, only lossing signifficant numbers of men and equipment, but the grounds and facilities were left relatively un touched. It was only until the Forsaken invaded the city did the Barracks become the ruins it is at the present day.
Currently[]
Currently the Barracks are but a shade of it's former glory and stand as a reminder of the Kingdom of Gilneas' former military power. Plans have recently been made to make reclamation and repair efforts of the Gilnean Central Barracks in order to properly house military forces prior to civilian return to the fallen kingdom, should it ever rise again.
Facilities[]
The Barracks once held many facilities and uses.
- Parade Grounds - This was where the Gilnean Military conducted many ceremonial events and reviews. It formerly boasted the largest parade grounds in Gilneas.
- Command Centers - Here much of the Strategic Command boasted their plans and utilized them to the various regiments housed in the barracks.
- Vast Armouries - Much of Gilneas' vast armaments were often stored inside (Though were never manufactured in the base) and was integral in the initial defence of Gilneas City.
- Soldier Racks - The Soldier Racks were once the occupying soldier's accomodation during the Barracks activity and could house several regiments.
