The Grand Circle of Mages is a branch of the Stormwind Circle of Magi dedicated to the use of magic in direct service to the Grand Alliance. The Grand Circle specializes in combat magics and other direct forms of supporting all peoples of the Alliance, though they also serve many of the functions the Circle of Magi as a whole performs.

History

The Grand Circle of Mages was rumored to have existed for untold decades, serving as a place for higher minds to study the arcane arts and to catalogue the spells and artifacts of the world around them, serving the Kingdom of Lordaeron as a secret order of mages that once held council within the doomed nation, serving as the magical elite operating outside the Kirin Tor, beholden only to the King himself.

Recently, the previously closed and mysterious Circle (now a subsect within the Stormwind Circle of Magi) has opened its doors to the Alliance as a whole and the mages who call it home. Rather than a cataloguing of spells and a limited scope of service, this group of mages takes on a role very similar to the one they once commanded in secret in the former nation of Lordaeron, albeit with less political power than they may have once had, rumours or no rumours. 

Rather than cater to Stormwindian culture and mere academics, the Grand Circle focuses on obtaining knowledge and mastery of said knowledge specifically to be used in service of the Grand Alliance. In doing so, they also focus on the other Alliance culture’s magical practices, honoring their own masteries and utilizing them in the service and protection of and to the Alliance as a whole.

Thus, the Grand Circle of Mages became known to the public, with Archmage Razavian Montierre proclaimed its fourth Grandmaster.

Baptized in Fire

No sooner had the Circle been formed than they found that their services would be put to use. Undead around the holdings of the Kingdom of Stormwind began to act aggressively, attacking civilians and seeming to be stirred by some aggravating source.

The Circle dispatched to the borders of Duskwood and Westfall, aiding in the culling of a number of undead, though their investigation into the cause had proven less than fruitful. Who or what was causing this surge of undead aggression? 

Tempered in Ice

No sooner had the Circle begun making progress towards their mission when orders were sent from High Command. They were being deployed to Northrend. The Circle made haste to Stormwind Harbor, where their ship awaited. Once aboard, the ship carrying the Grand Circle of Mages formed up with the rest of the Alliance fleet, sailing for the frozen north.
