When entering the unknown, a firm grasp of what you do know, aye?

–Mimi Hooker, to Lord-Marshal Ismond Laldere

Myrriam Sakura Hooker, known to her friends as Mimi, comes from a well-to-do merchant family in Bridgeport. The presumed heiress to the Hooker & Walker Free Trade Company, she learned her letters and numbers young, and was soon engaged as an apprentice to the physician Gregor Warren, becoming certified as a physician's assistant at the age of 18 and entering his practice. After Kul Tiras's admission into the Grand Alliance, she opted to conclude her career as a physician's assistant and instead sailed to Stormwind to join the Army in order to finance furthering her medical career - she seeks to become a full surgeon. Ambitious and confident, she will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals.

Description[]

She's only about average height for a woman, but she makes up any difference with personality. Bright, ambitious, and just the right sort of cunning, she struts with confidence in whatever room she's in. Her Kul Tiran accent is fairly thick, but she makes no effort to hide it, letting it colour her fairly deep voice. She has coppery brown hair that falls down to her shoulders, usually swept back in a ponytail, with regal features and stormy grey-blue eyes.

She is notably left-handed, and suffers from hydrophobia.

History[]

The name Hooker is hardly one you'd find on a writ of pedigree; in all likelihood, her family hails from humble fisherfolk, using small boats and flotillas off the coast of Tiragarde to collect the mainstay protein of Kul Tiras. However, by the time of Myrriam's birth in the months preceding the Third War, the Hooker family was one of the two families at the head of the powerful Hooker & Walker Free Trade Company, run by her father Abraham Hooker and her godfather, the Lordaeronian expatriate Brand Walker.

The only child of Abraham and his wife Coraline, Mimi led a privileged childhood. Well educated by private tutors, she spent much of her early life engaging in the intellectual and leisure pursuits usually reserved for the nobility. Most of her education centered on business management. In her free time, she was a particularly avid reader of fiction, and dabbled in her own writing. She also was trained in the basics of fencing, though she claims to have retained little of those skills.

From an early age Mimi accompanied her father on business voyages, most notably to the newly established nation of Theramore. However, this came to an abrupt halt when, in 24 LC, a storm struck the company flagship Emerald Sea en route to Theramore and swept a five-year-old Mimi overboard. She was recovered before she drowned, but the incident left Mimi with crippling hydrophobia, and after her return home to Tiragarde, she never again set sail on Company ships.

Medical Education[]

When Mimi was thirteen, her father Abraham was permanently disabled by the Bombing of Theramore; Company members close to the family described the Hooker patriarch as a hollow shell of a man, akin to someone in the late stages of dementia. Her mother Coraline stepped up to run the company, leaving Mimi at home with tutors, staff, and her deteriorating father. Soon after, Mimi's education took a medicinal turn, and she began pursuing a career as a doctor, becoming apprenticed to a well-respected physician named Gregor Warren; the two would alternate traveling to the other's place of residence for lessons. At the age of eighteen, Mimi graduated from her apprenticeship and became an assistant in Warren's practice. It is likely she harbored desires to continue her education and attend medical school in Boralus; however, the Company's finances had suffered greatly over the past few years and it was unlikely she would be able to afford it.

The beginning of the Fourth War changed these plans. With the readmission of Kul Tiras into the Grand Alliance and the need for military support on the rise, Mimi saw an opportunity to both avenge her father and pursue her stalled dreams. She volunteered as a medic during the Horde's invasion of Kul Tiras, and in the waning months of the war she terminated her employment with Doctor Warren and traveled to Stormwind City aboard the Company ship Gallivant.

Military Career[]

After some clerical delays with her paperwork, Mimi enlisted as a Recruit in the First Regiment of the Stormwind Army on February 23, 40 LC. She was stationed at the Westbrook Garrison for basic training, then transferred a month later to Stormwind City for additional training as a field medic. She returned to Westbrook Garrison for active duty in June of 40 LC, still with the rank of Recruit. She saw her first action suppressing a peasant revolt at Alderham as a field medic. Since then, however, she has primarily operated out of the garrison, attempting to transition into the role of a full physician rather than medic. On the first of September, 40 LC, she was promoted to the rank of Private and became a full member of the Stormwind Army's Medical Corps.

Mimi came to the attention of the Medical Corps' leadership after the disappearance in battle of Dr. Ardvertan Melkarn, the First Regiment's resident surgical specialist; with the number of available physicians already low, Mimi was hastily administered both the Corporal's examination and the Royal Hospital examination. She was promoted to Corporal on October 12, and certified as a military physician on October 30, beginning a probationary period under the personal supervision of Chief Medical Officer Giselle Becker. She intends to specialize in surgery and general practice.

Early in November, Idria da Torre, the Baronetess of Helmswake, petitioned for Mimi to be relieved of duty, as a citizen of Kul Tiras presently sequestered in Stormwind by military order. Pending negotiations on the matter, Mimi was transferred from Westbrook to Stormwind City on November 16. After prolonged negotiations, the Army agreed to the Baronetess's request; Mimi was honourably discharged on April 27 of 41 LC, and departed Stormwind shortly thereafter.
