General[]

The study of Polymorph Physics and the Relation to Mass, code-named Project Bronto-Cat, or simply known as the Bronto-Cat Calculation, was a joint theoretical proof-of-concept experiment conducted by the Stormwind Circle of Magi and the Magocracy of Dalaran's Ministry of War at the height of the Fourth War in year 38 L.C.

The Study[]

As noted by Archmage Enisler [1] of the Kirin Tor, "polymorphing a creature or humanoid actually condenses its mass into whatever you're changing it into, so those little sheeps and rats are extremely dense once polymorphed! If you manage to get the jump on a large Riverbeast and turn them into a sheep, go ahead and listen reaaallllyyy carefully - you might be able to still hear their thunderous footsteps as they waddle around waiting for the effects to fall off."

With this knowledge in hand, Archmagi Nathul Furlbrow, Vanidicus Alexander, and Aetyleus Ardalan began the development of a super-weapon akin to the Mana Bomb in its destructive power at a fraction of the time and cost.

The theory was simple: Take a large animal with considerable mass and guide it through a portal. The animal would then fall through the recipient end of the portal, located far above the ground. As it began its decent, the creature would be polymorphed into a smaller being and therefore result in an object of considerable mass and density packed into a vessel with a small surface area, effectively creating a powerful makeshift missile.

Logically due to its availability, ease of access, and size, the newly discovered Brantosaur of Zandalar, weighing in at 49,000 kilograms, was chosen for as the prime animal for the polymorph. After careful consideration, it was decided a cat, with a surface area of 2m², would serve best as the payload animal due to its small size and ability to seemingly always land upon its paws.

After several enduring trials, it was discovered that the opportune height of the recipient portal was approximately 2350 meters, at which it would take the Brontosaur, now polymorphed as a cat upon emergence of the portal, 21.90 seconds to reach the ground. The cat would reach and hit the ground at a calculated 214.62 m/s with 511.865 mega-joules of energy at terminal velocity (214.778 m/s), resulting in a explosion capable of rivaling the Mana Bomb.

Outcome[]

The Bronto-Cat super weapon was utilized during a military campaign during the Conquest of Zandalar. Due to is sheer power and destructive nature, this remains the first and only time the weapon was used in armed conflict.
