Sheera Prescott founded the Stormwind Daily in June 632 KY.  In its infancy, the Daily was treated much like a personal column and storytelling opportunity for Prescott rather than as a news publication.  Whereas several readers found this newsletter-esque approach charming, demand soon grew for more serious reporting on a more diverse range of issues away from simply Prescott's personal life.

Prescott's success with the Daily caught the attention of Lady Rose who offered to help Prescott's desire to have a free news source by providing the monetary needs to make the Daily free for all people.  Prescott had been following Lady Rose and frequently writing articles about her, particularly on the dresses she wore, so she was beyond excited to accept Lady Rose's offer.

Now serving as co-editor, Lady Rose worked on both widening the Daily's appeal as well as ensuring the aesthetic pleasure of each article, vastly improving the paper's formatting and styles.  She began partnerships between the Daily and dozens of organizations, hired additional staff to cover more articles, and dramatically increased the circulation of the paper.   Prescott continued to focus on writing slice of life style articles while Rose began covering government and guard affairs.

Since that time, the Daily has published close to one hundred issues and hundreds of articles and columns.  The Daily is extremely popular amongst readers in Stormwind City, especially in Cathedral Square and the Mage Quarter, where residents can often be seen walking about with their copy of the Daily in tow.  The Daily has international appeal as well, having issues circulated in Ironforge and Pandaria amongst other lands. It is usually the first choice for government officials, law enforcement agencies, event planners, clergy, and virtually everyone else to post announcements and tell about their stories.

Lady Rose serves as the editor in chief of the Stormwind Daily Newspaper, though she holds many other positions throughout the Kingdom of Stormwind.  At her core, Lady Rose is a socialite, which made her the prime person to help Sheera Prescott grow her small paper business, especially when Lady Rose offered to cover the expenses of printing so that Prescott could offer the paper for free. With Prescott's departure from the Daily, Lady Rose was responsible for overseeing all of the daily operations, though she relies heavily on her reporters to produce content.  Lady Rose edits each article for grammar, style, and punctuation prior to publication and she frequently writes articles herself, chiefly in Politics and News.  She coordinates all of the adverts in the paper.

Soma Breyer is a cousin of Sheera Prescott.   Knowing Lady Rose would need assistance in the administration of the paper, Prescott arranged for Breyer to begin working at the Daily to cover columns Prescott normally covered.  Though new to Stormwind City and a bit bashful, Breyer eventually found her way into Prescott's former role as a reporter and is now far more natural at conducting interviews and writing news. After impressing Lady Rose and Prescott with her journalism skills, Breyer was elevated to the position of Lead Journalist and Co-Editor, taking Prescott's previous position.

Allegations of Bias & Controversies
Whereas widely and largely a loved publication, some individuals have alleged the Stormwind Daily expresses bias in a number of fashions.  The Daily normally responds to these allegations stating that they do not claim to be an unbiased news source and tend to prioritize the thoughts of their columnists and reporters over achieving true unbiased.  Despite some allegations of biases and some controversies, the Daily remains committed to reporting on the news and is broadly accepted as a journalistically prudent organization.

Alleged Bias Towards the Stormwind City Guard
The most predominant allegation of bias is that the Stormwind City Guard is always portrayed positively in the Daily.  Whereas the Daily often republishes reports issued to them by the Stormwind City Guard, it has also been critical of the Guard on numerous occasions, including criticizing them for excessive force in issue 5,  criticizing them for an unlawful arrest issue 15,  criticizing their communication with other agencies in issue 34, publishing a letter calling saying the guards could be replaced by lifeless dolls and none would be the wiser in issue 36, publishing a letter alleging corruption in the Guard in issue 40, admitting they communicated poorly in issue 49, reporting on guard misconduct in issue 75, publishing a complaint about Guard behavior in issue 85, and printing an apology from a guard and the Guard for poor communication in issue 93.  Nevertheless, the majority of the stories the Daily covers on the guards are positive.  The Daily cites the reason that the Guard does far more good than wrong as an explanation.

Alleged Bias Towards Lady Rose
Since becoming co-editor of the Daily, and especially after being elected to serve on the Stormwind City Council to represent Cathedral Square, allegations have arisen that the Daily tends to only report positively on Lady Rose and skew the news to favor her.   Given the Daily's position on not asserting themselves as an unbiased publication, they tend not to reject this charge, though they never explicitly admit to showing bias towards Lady Rose.  On the contrary, they have published or referenced articles critical of her, including a heated letter exchange between her and former Mage Quarter city councilor Adrian Engles in issue 85 during her City Council campaign.

As was the case in issue 85, the Daily often requests permission from the authors of letters critical of Lady Rose to publish them in the paper, as they do when they seek to republish any letter or article about anyone or anything else; however, most critical authors refuse to allow the Daily to publish their criticisms, which further enhances the illusion that the Daily expresses bias towards Lady Rose by not publishing negative attacks against her.

Alleged Bias Against the Commoners First Party
Some member of the Commoners First Party have alleged the Stormwind Daily fails to acknowledge or support their organization in any fashion with some alleging the Daily actively seeks to undermine or ignore their efforts.

The Daily has, however, has run numerous positive articles regarding the Commoners First Party, including referring to CFP founder Adrian Engles as a "councilor for the commoners" after interviewing him in issue 21, an article heaping praise onto the party's ideals after a reporter attended one of their meetings in issue 22, re-publishing Engles' letter of endorsement for CFP member Simon Whitaker in issue 39, re-publishing an anonymously submitted letter from a CFP member calling for commoner justice in issue 40, referring to Engles' as "the most influential commoner politician of our time" in issue 67 and issue 68, advertising a memorial for CFP member Richaun Brooks in multiple issues (51, 52, 53), defending the CFP against allegations that one of their members attempted to assassinate the lord mayor in issue 57, advertising a CFP election party in multiple issues (75, 76, and 77), positively reporting on the capture of Brooks' and Engles' murderer in issue 89, and interviewing several of the CFP's members such as Kenneth McHenesy in issue 26 and Esra Kellington in issue 31 in addition to interviews with Engles.

Allegations of Not Printing Retractions
Whereas the Stormwind Daily always strives to report on matters as accurately as possible, some stories evolve, change, or lack pertinent information unknown to the Daily at the time of publication, and some have alleged that the Daily fails to print retractions or updates on these situations.

The Daily, however, refutes that allegation by referring to multiple instances wherein they provided updates or retractions on stories, including printing an apology and full retraction in issue 10 after incorrectly reporting on a drowning, printing an arrest warrant from the Lord Chief Justice using the wrong person's name in issue 28 and then printing an apology and clarification in issue 29, failing to give a full account of a bombing in issue 30 and then printing and apology and update in issue 34, interpreting a legal proclamation on the legality of vampyrs in issue 37 and then reporting on the Stormwind Judiciary's response to their incorrect interpretation in issue 38, mistakenly writing "ettins" as "mittens" in issue 67 and then printing a clarification in issue 68, reporting on a potential necromancy in the Cathedral of Light after a death knight forced himself inside in issue 72 then printing updates that the death knight did not force his way into the cathedral in issue 73 and that necromancy did not occur in issue 76, reporting a potential spotting of blue dragonflight in issue 79 and then printing a clarification that they were likely not blue dragonflight in issue 80, incorrectly reporting on the timeline of events in an arrest in issue 85 and then printing a corrected timeline in issue 86, and running a story on prostitution in issue 92 and then apologizing for not clarifying that prostitution is legal in issue 93, though some minor issues, such as a misspelling of a name, may be corrected in subsequent versions of that article but the change not be given a highlight in future issues.

The Stormwind Daily Newspaper (often abbreviated as "Stormwind Daily" or just "The Daily")  is a free, public newspaper offered throughout Stormwind City .  Whereas the paper focuses predominately on Stormwind-centric events, it does often cover events and individuals from elsewhere.   It is currently the largest news publication in Stormwind City and the largest news publication ever established on Azeroth, reaching approximately 950 individuals with each issue.

Purpose

The Stormwind Daily Newspaper is the premiere print news source for all happenings within Stormwind City and beyond!. The newspaper publishes daily articles covering events, business promotions, interviews with interesting people, celebrity gossip, and more. The Stormwind Daily was founded to provide a free news source to every resident of Stormwind City.  Though they initially charged a few copper per print issue, this purchase model was dropped altogether when a patron agreed to fund their operations.

The Daily aims to provide the residents of Stormwind with a variety of news, covering the most pressing and interesting topics of the day.

History

Founding

Sheera Prescott founded the Stormwind Daily in June 2020. This resulted in Prescott beginning to interview various individuals from around Stormwind City and featuring their interesting stories in the paper.  She also began following the arrests of the Stormwind City Guard and "looking for scoops" around the city beyond her limited scope.

Expansion & Present Day

Now serving as editor in chief, Lady Rose worked on both widening the Daily's appeal as well as ensuring the aesthetic pleasure of each article, vastly improving the paper's formatting and styles.

Prescott eventually took an indefinite hiatus from the Daily to tend to personal matters, leaving her cousin, Soma Breyer, in her place as a reporter.  Lady Rose and Prescott eventually promoted Breyer to take Prescott's place after being impressed with Breyer's skills as a journalist. As the Daily continued to grow and expand, Arinne Knottley, who was serving as a reporter, was promoted to join Breyer and Lady Rose as the Daily's third editor.

Columns

Advertisements & Events

This column is used for organizations and individuals to advertise events they are hosting or post job notices or organizational recruitment efforts. It frequently features reoccurring ads such as a recruitment messages from guilds across the kingdom; event announcements; personal ads for individuals looking for a specific service;  businesses advertisements; notifications about elections. Given the Daily is a nonprofit publication, it does not charge any individual or organization from running ads in their paper; however, they do regulate the content of the ads and may choose not to run ads for certain individuals or organizations.

Behind the Badge

Behind the Badge exclusively features law-enforcement related content.  It contains arrest reports and arrest warrants submitted to the Daily by the Stormwind City Guard and other law enforcement entities.

Breaking News

The headline of every issue, the Breaking News columns features the most pressing or interesting article in the Daily.  Dramatic headlines are often used here to grab readers' attention, though the headlines are not so hyperbolic that they are not representative of the content of the article.

Letters to the Editor

Several readers submit letters to the editor and a select portion of these letters are re-published in the Daily.  The content of letters to the editor range from thank you notes for covering an event, person, or organization to criticisms about articles in the Daily.  Fan mail or hate mail, each letter has an equal chance at being republished if it is of sound structure and uses the appropriate grammar and punctuation.

News

This is a catch-all column that tends to observe stories that do not fit into the other columns, hence it being labeled as general "news". Reoccurring news articles include such things as stories about the state of the economy and medical tips. Events previously advertised in the Daily are also frequently written about here, including classes at Stormwind City Community College. Several taverns, such as The Rose Garden Tavern, The Valabar, and The Violet Hour, submit articles about their opening nights and the activities of the evening. Life announcements are also frequently published in this column, such as birth announcements, wedding announcements, adoption announcements, and obituaries.

Medical Advice

The Daily has frequently run medical advice columns. The contents of these articles generally provide home remedies, advice about staying health, and warnings about special health hazards.

Tech Talk

The Tech Talk column looks at technology from across Azeroth and provides recommendations about uses and purchases of interesting technology.

People of Stormwind

Interesting individuals who inhabit or visit Stormwind City are spotlighted in this column, which explores the lives and backstories of people in and around Stormwind City.  Reporters for the Daily may stop an interesting looking person on the street for an interview or may be assigned to speak with someone of some political, business, or social importance.  The individuals in these articles vary widely and feature virtually everyone.  It is the favorite column of many readers.

Celebrity gossip is also frequently covered in Talk of the Town. Coverage in this column can often be controversial given the disputable nature of some of the gossip. This column may also feature advice columns.

Politics

Covering the entire spectrum of politics from the Stormwind Crown Administration and all the ministries and sub-ministries therein, this column keeps residents informed on the laws, lawmakers, and government officials within Stormwind. It recaps important government meetings, advertises government appointments, publishes political opinion pieces, and more. Aside from Stormwind, the column may sometimes feature the politics of Ironforge, Gnomeregan, Kul Tiras, the Horde, and other nations.

Travel

Though scantly featured, Lady Rose will venture across Azeroth from time to time for a column called "Lady Rose's Adventures Across Azeroth", exploring places she expects to be interesting.  Oftentimes, she is disappointed in the quality of her destination and comically insults wherever she ended up.  Notable locations she has visited include Winterspring in issue 18, Pandaria in issue 19, and Sholazar Basin in issue 20. Once the Shadowlands became open for travel, Soma Breyer received reports from adventurers regarding their time in Oribus, Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Revendreth.

Former Columns

Celebrity News

A rarer column, Celebrity News covered the affairs of notable individuals in Stormwind.  Most of these individuals were politicians and would be noted in the Politics column; however, there were some socialites who do not sit in the Stormwind House of Nobles or other government body.  Lady Rose, for example, prior to joining the Stormwind City Guard and the Stormwind City Council, was frequently featured in this column. Celebrity news may now sometimes be featured in People of Stormwind's Talk of the Town.

Cooking

Dr. Tah'Koz Appleton previously shared recipes for dishes she enjoys making and thinks others will enjoy, too.  Notable recipes she has shared include Kun-Lai chicken in issue 51 and Tah'Koz's tacos , which are famous in Lions' Rest, in issue 28. The Rose Garden Tavern has also submitted some of their recipes to be re-published in this column. Recipes are now published in the general News column.

Notable Staff Members

Sheera Prescott

Sheera Prescott founded the Daily with the motto "The truth is out there." and decidcating her entire life in Stormwind City to the success of the Stormwind Daily Newspaper.  She was the face of the paper, serving as its co-editor, lead journalist, and even as a distrubtor, frequently handing out copies of the paper on the street.   Sheera's former wife, Winnona Prescott, initially helped her with the Daily by serving as its photographer, but Winnona drifted away from the paper as she and Sheera's marriage fell apart.

During her time with the Daily, Sheera had a particular affinity on covering stories involving vigilante groups, namely The Eidolon, which was a crime-fighting task force of individuals with superhuman abilities.   She also enjoyed covering vampyrs. Whatever the topic, Sheera's stories tended to be upbeat and personal, speaking to the readers if they were her own personal friends.

Sheera eventually decided to take an indefinite hiatus from the Daily and leave Stormwind altogether after her current wife, Audrey Bellerose, grew concerned for Sheera's safety in the city after Sheera's negative coverage of several criminal organizations such as the Xaxdorei Cartel and the Knee Cappers Gang.  She will, however, still occassionaly submit articles to the Daily and does still confer with Lady Rose on the Daily's administration.

Lady Rose

See main article here.

Soma Breyer
