The Sunhawk-class destroyer, named after the first vessel of the line is a Thalassian ship commissioned in the interwar years between the Third War and the Blood War. The Sunhawk-class represents the Thalassian Navy's adaptation to the continued emerging threat of the Grand Alliance Navy's dominance on the seas.
Issues[]
Due to the crippling of the Kingdom of Quel'thalas, The development of the Destroyer ran into monetary and resource shortages, as well as manpower issues. As such, the layout and design took triple the time, ten years, that such designs normally would take to develop a similar class type.
The lack of ship capable siege weapons, development of the design initially was just an upscale of the Thalassian Corsair, with double the guns. The warship also had to be designed to be operated with a limited crew, yet still have enough sailors to defend the ship from boarders.
When the Alliance-Horde War broke out, the development was put on hold, with just the basic hulls for four vessels under construction.
After the conclusion of war, the project was reactivated, finishing the first vessel two months before the outbreak of the Blood War. The three following vessels were completed between the two months, and a fifth was ordered when the war broke out. The fifth vessel remains to be under construction.
Field Deployments[]
A total of 5 Sunhawk-class were initially ordered, with the vessels intended to join the Auxiliary Fleet of the Thalassian Navy. After several years of construction, 4 of the 5 vessels were available at the outbreak of the Blood War, with the fifth vessel still under construction and was almost ready for launch.
The first deployment of the Sunhawk-class was in Northrend, fighting against Stormwind's Fifth Fleet. The Destroyers proved their worth, with all surviving the campaigns.
