“These men fought the alien, at Theramore. They brought the Grand Admiral home after he fell. They fought demons on the shores of the Sound, fought all the evils brought by the dead queen of Quel’thalas. And you call them traitor—call me traitor—because a girl who killed her father and stole a crown said we were.”
Thommis Greyhelm is the titular Count of Karsbrad, and the head of House Greyhelm, a minor Stromic noble house.
Description[]
Thom appears to be in his late thirties or early forties. He has a worn, tanned appearance, and speaks in a low smooth drawl that is unlike other Stromic humans. He often has some chew in his cheek, a habit learned from the Bogfoot dwarves of the Wetlands.
He often wears a pair of anchors on a chain around his neck, one gold and one of storm silver, symbols of his service to the city of Theramore, and the admiralty of Kul Tiras.
Armor[]
Thom is rarely seen in the full plate of an Ashvane knight, instead opting for lighter chain, or leather.
Arms[]
Though he has the expected knightly accoutrement, Thommis carries with him a hand crossbow, and explosives of various kinds.
History[]
Thommis Greyhelm is a knight of two kingdoms and a count of third, and a man who has lost almost everything a man can lose.
Youth[]
Thommis is the third son of the late Lord Gade Greyhelm, a marcher lord of Stromgarde. Gade was not a wealthy man, and he sent Thom to live in his uncle's household in the Wetlands, not far from Menethil Harbor, with the intention that Thom learn the ways and trade of the merchant.
Instead, Thom spent most of his time causing trouble in the town, diving the wrecks, and fishing with his friends from the Bogfoot clan.
The Third War[]
As the plague spread in the north, Thom joined Jaina Proudmoore’s Human Expedition as a member of the Stromgarde Brigade, against the wishes of his father. He served with the brigade's cavalry, until the unit's annihilation in the Southern Barrens by the Warsong Clan. Narrowly surviving that defeat and then the Expedition's stand at Mount Hyjal, he made his way to the new city of Theramore, where he was knighted, in recognition of his service.
Upon arrival of the Grand Admiral, however, Thommis and several of his compatriots defected to the Alliance side, fighting in vain to free the city from coming under the sway of the new empire of the Orc to the north. As the battle then turned against the Kul Tirans, Thom was among those of the Elite Guard that brought the fallen Admiral and Lord James Ashvane back to their ships, and then home, to Boralus.
Although Thom briefly considered returning to his homeland, he received the news that the kingdom had fallen, and his family with it. His eldest brother, Gade the Younger, was killed during the orcish raid on Durholde Keep and his second brother, Brandin, was believed to be among the Silver Hand slain during the defense of Andorhal against King Arthas and his undead army.
An ill-fated expedition to aid the Grand Marshal Garithos, led by his youngest brother, Agastos, ended in defeat to the Scourge, at the Thondoril River.
New Home, New Company[]
A grateful Priscilla Ashvane offered Thommis employment in her own Ashvane Trading Company, which he accepted. He rose through the ranks quickly, acquiring allies and, eventually, his own ship and cadre of company marines. He earned a reputation as a tough, often cruel man, who rewarded results as heavily as he punished failure.
Sir Thommis and his crew were enlisted into the Admiralty's armed forces during the Legion invasion, fighting off demons that landed near the city.
The Fourth War[]
Jaina Proudmoore's sudden, violent coup against Lord Admiral Priscilla Ashvane left her house and company in a precarious position, as many members, employees, and mere associates found themselves victims of reprisal or unjust imprisonment. Thom led a raid of the Falconer, a notorious prison ship, to free many of his allies, and then fled across the Great Sea to Stromgarde, where he would attempt to reclaim his family's lands.
While meeting with the Trollbane regency in Stromgarde City, Thommis met with a man claiming to be Sir Agastos of Strom—last son of Lord Gade Greyhelm... and his brother.
Count of Karsbrad[]
Though his father's holdings in Palewatch had been awarded to the League of Arathor, the Lord High Steward of Stromgarde named Thommis Greyhelm the Count of Karsbrad, a mostly abandoned region in the south. He was charged with ending the feud between Kul Tiran settlers and a cult dedicated to the late Lord Uther, and re-establishing the kingdom's control over the region. Lord Greyhelm assembled a force of hundreds, including former members of the Ashvane Company and the League of Arathor, and established a base at Twin Rivers.
Personality[]
Thom is a man quick to smile, and quicker to anger. He is violent, but not needlessly cruel. His commitment to seeing the job done, and done right, has earned him favor with those above, and his generosity earned him more with those below.
Relationships[]
Sir Thommis was believed to have married Sheoli Varinth, a Gilnean-born Tidesage, though there are no records in Boralus to confirm this. The two daughters of Lord Pryce Ashvane, Lucinda and the bastard, Lucilla, were known to be close to Sir Thommis, and are rumored to have followed him and his band to Stromgarde.
Baranth de Tydros, a young mage known to Rufaic Snowsteel's Vigilants of Tyr, was a protégé of the count, and may still serve him.
