The Valiance Expedition was the main army of the Alliance during the War against the Lich King, unified under King Varian Wrynn for the offensive against the Scourge. They were considered the military arm of the greater Alliance Vanguard. In addition to King Varian, the Expedition forces on the front lines were led by senior Alliance officers such as Highlord Bolvar Fordragon, General Arlos, High Commander Halford Wyrmbane and Admiral Jenna Cantlebree.
The Expedition had several bases and fields of operations throughout Northrend. A few include:
- Valiance Keep, Borean Tundra. Main headquarters of the Valiance Expedition, and one of two Alliance ports in Northrend which was under the command of General Arlos.
- Fordragon Hold, Dragonblight. Alliance base-camp at the Wrath Gate. Highlord Bolvar Fordragon was based here along with his men before the events of Angrathar.
- Valgarde, Howling Fjord. An Alliance port established on the eastern side of Northrend under the command of Vice Admiral Keller which serves as the secondary port for Alliance forces on the continent, the other being Valiance Keep.
- Wintergarde Keep, Dragonblight. The headquarters of the elite Alliance military group known as the Seventh Legion.
- Westguard Keep, Howling Fjord. A well guarded Fort sitting atop large cliffs within the Fjord's.
