The Wastewanders (also known as the Wastewander Confederation or the Wastewander Bandits) are a loosely organized band of outlaw nomads and tribes that inhabit the Tanari Desert.

Though most Wastewanders are descended from a small band of pirates that were marooned in Tanaris around the time of the Third War by the Southsea Pirates, some tribal groups claim to have have ancient claims to the desert that date back thousands of years.

The Wastewanders took to a new life as outlaws and started raiding the rich goblin settlements that started appearing in the desert and taking control over many of the desert's water sources, earning the ire of the Gadgetzan Waterworks Company who attempted to have their leader, Caliph Scorpidsting, assassinated on multiple occasions. They were primarily based out of the Noonshade Ruins and the Waterspring Fields.

Following the Cataclysm, Caliph Scorpidsting led his people as they migrated to the Eastmoon Ruins, which they took over from the Dunemaul clan after their former holdings were flooded. Another group led by Warlord Ihsenn entered the region of Uldum after the region's shrouding shield was damaged and failed, eager to pillage the ancient treasures of the titans. Of those who left for Uldum, some left the Wastewanders and were hired as laborers for Schnottz's archaeological expedition crew.

After Schnottz's demise and the disbanding of the expedition, the Wastewanders took control of western Uldum and established several settlements in abandoned tol'vir ruins and encampments left behind by Schnottz's crew; complete with trade caravans and a port.

During the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion, the Tanari Wastewanders fought against the Legion as it attempted to take over the Eastmoon Ruins, holding their ground against the demonic invaders.

Following the awakening of N'Zoth and the invasion of Uldum, the Wastewanders, now led by Arik Scorpidsting, traveled to Ramkahen to speak with King Phaoris. Despite protestation from High Commander Kamses, the King allows their presence at the war meeting. They swore to the pact of the Uldum Accord, joining forces with Ramkahen and the Explorer's League to see the region defended against N'Zoth's forces and the overzealous Amathet tribe that both sought to take control of the Forge of Origination for their own goals.
